Have You Seen Jesus Lately?
Christ is risen.
Crisis risen indeed.
Now we can say hallelujah—
hallelujah to our heart’s content
We stopped looking for the living among the dead.
We’ve gone back about our business.
But if Jesus is alive… where is he?
Have we seen him?
Do we even know where to look?
He told us—
if only we had paid attention.
We asked, “When did I see you?”
He answered:
When I was hungry—
you gave me food.
Thirsty—
you gave me something to drink.
Homeless—
you made a bed for me.
“When were you hungry, Lord?”
When I stood at the corner holding a sign.
“When were you homeless?”
When I crossed the border and hid from ICE.
When I was falsely accused—
you stood by me.
When I sat alone at the lunch table—
you pulled up a chair.
When I said “I was assaulted”—
you said “I believe you.”
When I was afraid—
you held my hand.
When I was lost—
you pointed the way.
When I was unwashed, unworthy,
unaccepted and unpresentable—
you sat beside me in church.
“Was that you, Jesus?”
You didn’t look like the pictures.
He says:
If I am risen, if I am alive,
I am among you.
Wherever love answers pain,
wherever mercy meets the margins—
I am there.
Don’t go looking for me
on a mountaintop,
in a gold-plated palace,
in the halls of the powerful.
Look for me
in the forgotten corners.
Among the least.
Among the wounded.
Among the brave.
There—you have seen me.
I am risen. I am with you.
Do you see me now?
