Just the Same
Just the same as when he said goodbye.
The door closed softly as he left
Behind him, the chaos and confusion reigned
No one looked up as he walked away
Just the same as when he said goodbye.
All the words he used to tell his story
Fell upon their apathetic ears
Never truly understanding what I had said
Just the same as when he said good-bye
He left a note for those who cared
Explaining the what, when, and why
All the while knowing it would really matter
Just the same as when he said good-bye
So long ago, he had passion and faith
An innocence and naivete about this world
Only looking for a place to belong
Just the same as when he said good-bye
So much time and energy wantonly spent
So many opportunities neglected and gone
For the sake of earning their love and respect
Just the same as when he said good-bye
With wisdom earned from a lifetime
Denial and delusion to fit the norm
Only pain and loss revealed the truth
Just the same as when he said good-bye
No last looks over his shoulder
No lingering pause to wait for the reply
Defiantly stepping into the unknown
Just the same as when he said good-bye
Today, much stronger and more whole
Younger in spirit and renewed of mind
The past becomes an album of faded pictures
Just the same as when he said good-bye
Keenly focused on the present moment
Allowing any future to remain unformed
Alone yet complete in his own perfection,
Just the same as when he said good-bye
